CASE Debates Initiative

CASE Debates is a new initiative by the Harris County Department of Education, Center for Afterschool Summer and Enrichment for Kids or CASE for Kids in partnership with the Houston Urban Debate League (HUDL). The goal of the CASE Debates project is to provide high school students across Harris County an opportunity to participate in debate activities that they would not otherwise be able to access.

Through CASE Debates, CASE for Kids strives to equip participating students with critical skills and empower them to become thoughtful leaders of their communities and society. Proficiencies and behaviors that competitive debate naturally fosters include public speaking, analysis, organization, research, teamwork, and critical thinking. Debate is also proven to improve students’ grade point average and literacy scores while increasing the likelihood of attendance and graduation.
