IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Fortis Academy is the fourth public recovery high school in Texas, serving the greater Houston area.
The school, a program through the Harris County Department of Education, seeks to provide a high quality learning experience in a supportive environment that features both rehabilitation and recovery for students who suffer from substance use disorders.
The journey of Fortis Academy mirrors a roller coaster with extreme highs and lows from inception in November 2016 to opening in August 2018.
Come hear from four long-time educators about what it took to get the school off the ground, the challenges and celebrations of the first year and how the story of Fortis is changing the paradigm for how public schools educate students with substance abuse disorders in the nation’s third largest county.
