Kelly E. Tumy is the curriculum director for English language arts and social studies for the Teaching and Learning Center at HCDE. She holds a bachelor's degree in education from Texas Tech University and a master's degree in humanities from The University of Houston-Clear Lake. Before joining HCDE in 2015, Tumy served Crosby ISD, Humble ISD and Galena Park ISD. Her achievements include coauthoring the Laying the Foundation® Series and being an AP reader and national consultant for The College Board.

Brenda Arteaga is the curriculum director for special populations at HCDE. Arteaga is a 24-year veteran educator who most recently served as superintendent of schools and assistant superintendent for academics and operations at Southwest Schools in Houston. She holds a bachelor’s degree from University of Houston Central with specialties in interdisciplinary studies and an emphasis in reading and Spanish. She also holds certifications in bilingual/ESL and self-contained classrooms. She gained her master’s degree from St. Thomas University and a doctorate in professional learning from University of Houston.

Andrea Segraves is the director for the Teaching and Learning Center at HCDE. Before joining HCDE, Segraves served more than 10 years as a campus administrator for Clear Creek ISD. Prior to administration, she was a teacher in both Galveston ISD and Clear Creek ISD. Segraves earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Oklahoma and her master’s degree in educational supervision and administration from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Nicole Shanahan is the curriculum director for mathematics at the Teaching and Learning Center at HCDE. Shanahan is responsible for creating customized workshops that focus on building conceptual understanding and making content accessible to all learners. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Texas Christian University and a master’s degree in mathematics education from University of Houston. Before joining HCDE, Shanahan was a mathematics teacher in Houston ISD, where she was named “Secondary Teacher of the Year” and served as vice president of Texas Association of Supervisors for Mathematics.

Lisa Felske is the curriculum director for science at the Teaching and Learning Center at HCDE. She holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Rice University and master's degree in teaching, also from Rice University. Before joining HCDE in 2006, Felske was the science department chair at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston ISD. Her achievements include being awarded a Leadership in Education award from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1997 and being named Houston ISD's Outstanding Young Educator in 1996-1997.
